Julia Iliopoulos-Strangas
 

• Born in 1949 in Athens, daughter of Stylianos Strangas, Lawyer and Aikaterini Strangas, Piano Instructor. Married since 1973 with Professor Dr. Constantin Iliopoulos. Since 1986, Mother of Panos Iliopoulos, Student.
• High School Diploma, Greek-French School St. Joseph (1967).
• Law Studies at the Universities of Athens (1967-1972) and Hamburg (1975-1978 as a DAAD-Scholar).
• Graduated from the Law School of the University of Athens (1973).
• Awarded a Doctorate from the University of Hamburg (1984) with a thesis on “Immediate and Retroactive Application of Laws – A Constitutional Law Study under Consideration of German and Greek Tax Law ” (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Peter Selmer).
• Attorney at Law in Athens since 1974.
• Assistant in German Public Law (especially Constitutional Law) and afterwards Lecturer for German Constitutional Law at the University of Hamburg (1982-1985).
• Academic Director of the “Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights”, Athens (1986-1992).
• Professor (since 1990 Assistant Professor and afterwards tenured Professor) at the Law Faculty of the University of Athens.
• Visiting Professor at the Universities of Hamburg (1996-1997), Strasbourg (1998-1999) and Paris II (2005-2006 and 2006-2007).
• Lectures at the Universities of Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Regensburg, Sofia, Strasbourg, Vienna and others.
• Member of the Research Group „Groupe d’études et de recherches sur la justice constitutionnelle“ (University Aix-Marseille III).
• Member (since 1993), afterwards Rapporteur (1996-1997) of the United Nations “Committee against Torture”.
• Member of the Greek National Commission for Human Rights (1999-2005).
• Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Greek Constitutionalists (1997-2005 [2002-2005: Vice-President].
• Member of the Executive Committee of the Societas Iuris Publici Europaei (since 2003).
• Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Constitutional Law (since 2004).
• Secretary-General of the Societas Graeca Iuris Publici Comparativi (since 2004).
• Participation as examiner in graduate examinations in foreign universities (Belgium and France).
• Contact with numerous German law faculties, also as external expert in tenure proceedings.
• Editor of the international book series „Human Rights - Menschenrechte - Droits de l’homme - Ανθρώπινα Δικαιώματα“ with Ant. N. Sakkoulas (Athens) – Bruylant (Brussels) – Nomos Verlag (Baden-Baden, Germany).
• Member of the Editorial Board of the Annuaire International de Justice Constitutionnelle, Paris-Aix-en-Provence.
• Numerous publications in German, French and Greek on Constitutional, International and European Law, in particular on fundamental and human rights and comparative public law.
